Memorandum 14B
Following repeated enquiries from readers, librarians, reviewers, scholars, postgraduate students, and one particularly persistent gentleman from Croydon, the Editors wish to clarify the following:
The recommended order should not be mistaken for the correct order.
No correct order has yet been identified.
Readers discovering a correct order are requested not to publish it until such time as the Editors have had an opportunity to disagree with it.
Alternative reading orders remain entirely acceptable provided they are undertaken with sufficient confidence.
Those reading alphabetically are advised to proceed cautiously.
Those reading chronologically have probably misunderstood.
Those reading backwards have predecessors.
Those reading only the footnotes are closer than they realise.
